Mixed Reality

The Mixed Reality lab in the proposed TIH aims to create world-class facilities to develop state-of-the-art technologies with respect to immersive content creation, storage, transmission and rendering. The proposed lab will be the first of its kind in India where the main focus will be on the study and modeling of synthesized and mixed reality systems which can exploit human perception mechanisms to create virtual and augmented reality worlds. Activities in this lab will include analysis of human eye movement (gaze fixation), study and personalization of head-related transfer function for spatial 3D audio rendering to locate sounds well beyond the conventional field of view (binaural hearing), olfaction or sense of smell, and sense of touch or haptics, all for a more realistic and immersive AR/VR experience. This lab will be associated with the horizontal on Dependable CV & ARVR and contribute significantly towards the verticals on Dependable VR for X.
