Introduction

Vadnagar is a historically rich spot situated in Mehsana District (Gujarat) and located 12 km north of Visnagar. The excavation at Vadnagar had been undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India, Vadodara since 2014. One of the most significant results during the field season 2016-17 was the identification of seven cultural periods at Vadnagar. Excavation has revealed several major findings (i) A skeleton in seated posture datable to 10th century CE onwards, (ii) A square platform (with a socket in the middle which has been identified as a memorial stupa), encircled by an enclosure wall datable to 5th -7th century CE, (iii) An elliptical structure which seems to have been built during 1st – 2nd century CE and was further repaired /altered from 5th century CE onwards (iv) A well– finished solid brick structure, identified as a massive platform have been exposed up to 104 courses in one of the cuttings at Amba Ghat locality, where work is going on for the creation of an Experiential Museum.

Objective and Deliverables -

The objective of this project is to create a 2D side-scrolling single player platformer game (with 3 Game levels) for the Vadnagar excavation site of the ASI, which is to be developed using suitable technology and game development techniques, some of which are as follows:

  • Game Engine: A suite of tools that allow you to create a game and export it to your target platform. There are game engines with different levels of complexities.
  • Game Mechanics: This game will incorporate basic mechanics of walking, running and jumping along with some unique rope mechanics created specifically for the game characters. The mechanics will be a key drawing factor to get people playing the game and the idea is to create crispy and fun mechanics to navigate through the story.
  • Art Design: For the purposes of the Vadnagar game, stylized representations of the excavation sites will serve as main inspirations for the in-game environments. Storytelling can be done through different styles such as text-based dialogue boxes or 2D animations.
  • Sound Design: The sound design of the game should include the background scores, voiceovers and character dialogues. Background score can be influenced by Hindustani classical music with a modern electronic spin-off.
  • Story/ Plot: Story or plot for this game should be about exploration and excavation. the main protagonist can be an archeologist exploring the ruins of Vadnagar using their creativity, deduction and problem-solving abilities to progress through the story. Their progress is achieved using clues derived from the factual information that plays a key part in the problem-solving aspect of the game.
  • Level Design: There can be more than one levels in the game, to allow for different kind of users. Every level of the game can have different problems that would require innovative ways to navigate through the game.

All data and knowledge of the excavation sites at Vadnagar will provided by iHuB Drishti.
